Camilla Hellman, the Director of Development of the American-Scottish Foundation®, a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization, sent along an April 11 Wall Street Journal article written by Ralph Gardner in which her remarks on the Annual New York City National Tartan Day Parade are quoted.

Explaining that the Parade forms the center piece of Tartan Week, a weeklong celebration of Scottish culture and heritage, she informed us that the Tartan Week is one of several intensive activity periods for ASF that occur during the course of each year. At these times, she told us, ASF, an event driven organization, really appreciates the flexible arrangements under which WWBC provides its services. Their variety, availability when needed and the fact that they are paid for only when used is of immense value enabling the Foundation to deliver high quality programming cost effectively. For more information on ASF, a WWBC client since 1991, go to www.americanscottishfoundation.org.

Bain, Chairman of the American-Scottish Foundation®, presents the ASF’s Certificateof Appreciation to Donald S. Radcliffe, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of World-Wide Business Centres, Inc., in recognition of the 20th Anniversary of ASF becoming a tenant at WWBC’s Manhattan Office Business Center facility, in which to locate “Scotland House”, ASF’s headquarters.

Over its 40 year history, WWBC has a long and successful history working with the not-for-profit sector, providing, as needed, New York City office space, virtual offices, conference and meeting facilities each with complete back office services in place

Clients have included:

Make A Wish Foundation

William Mildred Lasdon Foundation

Dreyfus Foundation

Reach Grenada

Leon Lowenstein Foundation

For further information, go to www.wwbcn.com

World-Wide Business Centres, Inc., established in New York City in 1970, pioneered the
provisions of instantly available furnished and staffed office space for occupancy on a totally flexible basis. A full range of back office services addressing current needs were, and continue to be, available on a paid by use basis. At the outset these included personalized telephone answering, reception, meeting room, copying, telex, and typing services. Over the past forty years they have expanded in nature and sophistication to include virtual office, administration, internet, conference and break out, training, meeting and event space services.

In addition to its 20 year relationship with The American-Scottish Foundation®, WWBC
has hosted the Dreyfus Foundation; The Make a Wish Foundation; The William and Mildred Lasdon Foundation and the Leon Lowenstein Foundation. The benefit these foundations and other clients find of value in their relationship with WWBC are identified in the following extract from a letter Camilla Hellman, MBE, the American-Scottish Foundation’s Director of Development, wrote accompanying the Certificate of Appreciation presented to WWBC to acknowledge ASF’s 20th Anniversary as a WWBC client and expressing its gratitude for the services provided during that time.

“World-Wide Business Centres is an extraordinarily important resource for the Foundation, which, like most foundations, has to operate on a very limited budget while needing on short notice and on an unpredictable basis to have access to supplemental resources to accommodate period programmatic demands that exceed the capacity to handle of its staff and volunteers. To have access to WWBC’s support staff to handle event and solicitation mailings; perform mailroom functions; arrange the occasional food and beverage service for visiting dignitaries; setup conference calls for Board meetings; deliver flags and other materials to event locations; and, when necessary, provide swing space for temporary volunteer staffing needs, for client visitors and event storage space has proven both highly efficient as well as very cost effective. We are most appreciative of the many services WWBC and its excellent staff have given us in ways both big and small. On behalf of the Foundation’s Board, management and volunteers, please convey to the staff the fact that their support and kindness is much appreciated.”

Commercial real estate brokers and companies are slowly shrugging off their aversions to social media platforms and are engaging more frequently in online marketing, information gathering and client building.

While late to the social networking scene and still in a fledgling state of using websites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, many in the CRE industry have started trying to harness their reach in hopes that one day it will lead to deals and dollars. At the same time, many others still refuse to join the fold and flat out state they will resist until they’re the last ones online.

Given the cycles of production and the need by retailers to clear their shelves of outdated goods, many of the things we buy fall in price at specific times of the year.
Here is when some popular products often cost less:

Appliances
Just like many products, appliances go through annual makeovers. The new versions of refrigerators, dishwashers, and clothes dryers emerge in September and October.
That makes those months a great time to buy appliances because prices are slashed to get the old models out of the showroom, according to Bankrate.com.

Cars
According to Edmunds.com, an authoritative automotive website, you may be able to get closer to the price you’d like to pay if you shop for wheels:

At the end of the month, dealerships are eager to earn manufacturer’s bonuses.

At the end of a model year, when last year’s car looks out of date.

At the end of a car’s design cycle, just before the car will be redesigned bumper to bumper.

Computers
Electronic manufacturers unveil many of their coolest, newest products in January and February. This renders the previous year’s gizmos less desirable, meaning you can find savings opportunities February and March.

Furniture
New furniture models come to the stores in February, according to Bankrate.com, and that turns January into a good month to save on furniture.
However, if you are looking to replace that bedraggled couch and miss the February window, you may get another chance in July, when the new stuff for Fall starts arriving, according to Bankrate.com.

Plane tickets
Airline ticket prices change constantly, driven by competition among airlines, the season, and even fuel prices.
Still, experts point to one time when you can look for good deals: Wednesday, which is the midpoint of a complicated week cycle that sees prices rise late in the week and then fall early the following week.
“What’s the best time to buy your ticket on Wednesday? One hour after Tuesday midnight (1 a.m. Wednesday morning),” Peter Greenberg, travel editor for CBS News and travel editor at large for AARP, writes on his website.
“Why? About midnight, the airlines usually reload their computers with the latest low-cost fares that were announced the previous day but will be canceled if they are not purchased within 24 hours,” Greenberg advises.
The opinions quoted in this article are not necessarily those of World-Wide Business Centres

AND ANYTIME IS A GOOD TIME IF YOU ARE SHOPPING FOR OFFICE SPACE AT WORLD-WIDE BUSINESS CENTRES.
